Case study — C.W. Matthews

A crew you don’t have to watch — and a library the recruiting team uses every week.

Year over year
Rodeo coverage that promotes the next one
03 — The client

C.W. Matthews is one of the Southeast’s largest highway and heavy-construction contractors. Safety is priority number one there, which makes a film crew that doesn’t know how to move around heavy equipment a non-starter.

The challenge
Filming safely around heavy equipment and live traffic on active highway work
Attracting a younger generation into the trades
A director of training and recruitment with his hands in a dozen jars and no time to shoot
Needing content every day, not once a quarter
The approach

We earned a spot on their sites by keeping our heads on a swivel and staying out of the way — one or two people, all the gear, in and out fast. From there: the asphalt rodeo and the dirt rodeo, a high-school recruiting campaign, and employee testimonials. Every shoot hands back all the footage, not just the finished films, so the recruiting team keeps pulling from it long after we’ve left.
